In March 2006 a programme was televised by the BBC called The Secret Agent in which a reporter went undercover to "reveal the secret world of estate agents dirty tricks". Nearly a year later in February 2007 another programme was televised by ITV called Confessions of an Estate Agent which showed the ways in which estate agents abused the trust put in them by their clients. For many of us these programmes confirmed our national belief about Estate Agents, “ They’re simply not to be trusted”. However as much of an eye opener as these whistleblowers were many of us are still falling victims to the Tricks and Traps of estate agents and there is little being done to regulate such a problem. Statistics show that 9 out of 10 consumers now feel anxiety, a fear of loss and great dissatisfaction when dealing with estate agents. They’ve cost many of us in the form of stress, money or even losing our dream home and these are just a few ways they’ve caused us a problem, as I’m sure you’ll agree!
